Sounding off: Methodist split

Is Trump above the law? The responses of congressional Republicans to President Trump’s indictment, as described in the article, “Trump’s GOP defenders in Congress leap into action on charges after months of preparation” (June 10, TribLIVE) show, that these supporters are more concerned about Donald Trump than about the safety

Letter to the editor: Neither DEP s name or role should be changed

Thank you for publishing the well-written letter “Ramifications of DEP name change” (June 12, TribLIVE) about the Pennsylvania Senate’s attempt to change the name (and role!) of the Department of Environmental Protection. Pennsylvanians do need protection from pollution produced by big industries. We have a right under the Pennsylvania Constitution

Greensburg property owner on new garbage contract: We are stuck with this huge 31% increase

Some city property owners are questioning Greensburg leaders after they approved a contract with Waste Management that funnels an $80,000- per-year franchise fee into the city’s coffers while increasing garbage rates by almost 32%. In December, the city approved the five-year contract, which outlined the franchise fee collected from Waste

Letter to the editor: Misinformation on Pa election deadlines

TribLIVE s Daily and Weekly email newsletters deliver the news you want and information you need, right to your inbox. I hoped that Paul Kengor, a professor of political science at Grove City College, would be more knowledgeable about Pennsylvania elections. His column “Will MLB boycott the Pirates and the Phillies?” (April 15, TribLIVE) contained wrong information, saying absentee ballots must be in by May 11. Ballots must be received by 8 p.m. May 18, Election Day. Kengor said absentee ballots require photo ID, “PennDOT ID number,” or the last four digits of your Social Security number. Wrong. The absentee ballot I filled out needed only my signature on the outer envelope, so the election officials can compare it to my signature already on file. (Perhaps the rule for first time voters is different).
