Leaders of the Circus Arts Conservatory hope to make Sarasota a U.S. hub for circus education and are planning an expansion of its 2.2-acre property on Bahia Vista Street.
To make that possible, conservatory leaders need approval from the Sarasota County School District because the organization s arena sits on Sarasota High School property.
Conservatory leaders appeared before the School Board on May 4 to inform members of their intentions, and will return to present a master plan concept and ask for a 99-year extension to its lease.
The masonry theme continues inside the enclave. A protective structure for all the mailboxes just inside the gated entrance consists of two stonework columns supporting a small, gabled roof. Many of the Craftsman-style homes have stone fundaments or facades supporting the covered entryways.
Most of the 38 homes line Fireflag Lane, which runs to the south and dead ends in Pickerel Way. On the other side of that short street sit the six remaining houses facing north. Two large ponds and a wooded greenbelt provide a scenic buffer with the community immediately to the east.
The developer of Fox Trace, David Weekley Homes, based in Houston, Texas, is the largest privately owned home builder in the United States with more than 40 years of experience. It has other projects in Sarasota as well, notably Payne Park Village and The Enclave at Laurel Park.
For years, adults have had the opportunity to submit their artwork for an exhibit that commemorates Black History Month.
This year, students were given the same opportunity.
The Black Muse exhibit held in partnership by the Manasota Chapter of Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Art Center Sarasota and Suncoast Black Arts Collaborative has been held annually for adults for more than 10 years.
However, this year’s exhibit was virtual-only, which left gallery space at Art Center Sarasota.
