Resilience lessons for women accountants
By Cheryl Meyer
Three accomplished women shared their experiences and trials in a recent webinar titled “
Forging the Path: Women in the Accounting Profession,” which was sponsored by the AICPA Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee and the National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion. Moderated by Adrienne Davis, CPA, financial adviser at Northwestern Mutual, topics included mentors, continual learning, and dealing with challenges, among others.
Learn from setbacks and successes, and have fortitude
All professionals deal with ups and downs, and that was certainly the case for Tifphani White-King, principal and national tax practice leader at Mazars in New York City. One of her worst career moments, she recalled, was losing her first client. After debriefing her client and sharing that information with her team, her firm was able to leverage some of those points to win some new work in the space, she said during the webinar.
The CPA Consultants Alliance held its annual meeting online to discuss challenges confronting the accounting profession from COVID-19 and elect a new slate of officers for this year.
How to virtually onboard new employees
Boomer Consulting, Inc. has been an entirely virtual company for quite a while now, so working and collaborating remotely hasn t been a challenge during the pandemic. What IS new to our team in the past few months is virtually onboarding new team members.
In the past, we would fly new hires to Kansas City for a few days of in-person onboarding and training at our Accounting Innovation Center. That wasn t feasible - or advisable - when our newest employee started in May of last year. Fortunately, we were able to take what we d learned from years of working with coworkers, clients, and vendors across the country and apply it to the onboarding process.
