NOPIMING PROVINCIAL PARK People in parts of Nopiming Provincial Park remain on evacuation alert while cottagers in one subdivision have already been forced to leave. The province said a
wildfire burning in northwestern Ontario prompted the evacuation of cottages in the Davidson Lake subdivision near the Manitoba/Ontario border. Meantime, people at Bird Lake, Flanders Lake and Booster Lake have been told to be ready to leave on short notice. “So everybody’s taking it pretty seriously,” said Randy Hiebert, a cottage owner at Flanders Lake. “It’s really surreal. It’s not something that you would expect would happen in your own backyard.”

The Manitoba Wildfire Service and Manitoba Parks and Protected Spaces Branch advise that a large fire in northwest Ontario near the Manitoba border (Kenora 051) continues to advance west toward the Manitoba border and in to eastern Manitoba.

Value protection efforts on structures at Davidson Lake are underway, the province said. This involves placing sprinklers on cottages and other structures.
As well, a notification has been issued for cottagers and residents of a potential evacuation of the nearby Booster Lake, Flanders Lake and Bird Lake areas.
It says efforts are underway to protect properties in the subdivision, including the placement of sprinklers on cottages and other structures.
Cottagers and residents of nearby Booster Lake, Flanders Lake and Bird Lake are also being warned of a potential evacuation.
According to Ontario s online Forest Fire Info Map, the fire began June 8 and is out of control, at over 1,830 square kilometres.
The Manitoba government said in its latest wildfire update on Friday that wildfires across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and northwest Ontario will continue to bring smoke into all parts of the province until conditions improve.
