A failed smuggling attempt in Deming, New Mexico, led border agents to an El Paso hotel housing 39 undocumented migrants.

Four Southwest border ports of entry that had been closed due to a recent migrant surge will reopen later this week, White House officials said Tuesday.

Migrants are arriving in the U.S. under the Biden administration’s new “safe mobility offices,” set up in Colombia, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Ecuador. The idea is to streamline the U.S. refugee process so migrants don’t give up and pay smugglers to make the journey north.
