Spread between three professional leagues, Brodie Merrill will now have suited up for 13 teams.
For the second year in a row, Brodie Merrill has been selected in the Premier Lacrosse League Expansion Draft.
Wednesday night’s draft allowed Sean Quirk coach of the expansion Cannons LC to select 18 players to begin constructing his squad. Merrill, who played for Waterdogs LC during the PLL Championship Series last summer, was selected first overall. Merrill, however, is not the first player in this new era of Cannons lacrosse. That distinction belongs to Paul Rabil, who Quirk acquired in a trade with Atlas LC last week.

Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. North Carolina looks just about as unbeatable as Duke. The third-ranked Tar Heels defeated sixth-ranked Virginia 16-13 on Thursday in Charlottesville, Va., never trailing and leading by as many as eight goals.
A pair of man-down tallies to start the second quarter helped fuel an 8-1 run, as UNC (7-0) remained undefeated and extended its winning streak to 14 games dating back to last season. The Tar Heels are averaging more than 18 goals per game.

Good morning!
This weekend is the first anniversary of the lacrosse meltdown at Amherst College, an ugly chain of events that continues to wreak havoc on the program.
It began with a 25-15 loss at Tufts on March 7, followed by a night of commiserating at Jenkins Hall. An early-morning dustup ensued, and one of the combatants was Black. The student newspaper called it a racial incident and media outlets ran with the story. On March 21, the school announced it had fired men’s lacrosse coach Jon Thompson.
