Police, City of Calgary bylaw enforcement officers and the Alpha House encampments team descended on a pair of large homeless camps Tuesday afternoon.

Police announced Monday that several weapons and stolen items — including handguns, replica firearms, knives, axes and ATVs — were recovered from homeless encampments in southeast Calgary.

Calgary police have recovered a cache of weapons – including knives, Airsoft and replica guns, as well as real firearms – from two illegal encampments in the city over the past two weeks.

Police say they searched the first encampment after finding a John Deere Gator utility vehicle in the bushes under a tarp.

Along with the warmth and the light and the birds and the bugs it smelled like spring, and spring has come at last to the Bow.
