today and something the president himself highlighted at the press conference. take a listen. i think a lot of his views are going to be shaped by his advisers, the people around him, which is why it s important to pay attention to these confirmation hearhearings. this is a job of such magnitude you can t do it by yourself. you are enormously reliant on a team. how you put a team together to make sure that they are getting you the best information and they are teeing up the options from which you will ultimately make decisions. that s probably the most useful advice, the most constructive advice i ve been able to give him. personnel is policy, in other words. especially for a chief executive who for the first time in the history of this republic has zero experience in public service of any kind, not the government nor the military. with policy positions all over the map, even changing from one day to the next, it s nearly impossible to predict just what

destruction. this is threatening a feud between the top agencies and the president-elect white house. we re getting phew reaction from moscow. we ll get to that in a moment. let s bring in eugene scott and tom lobianco. good morning. the strategy behind this statement. just three sentences. unsigned. what what is the the calculation here from the trump folks? it s a continuation of donald trump s message during the campaign that he believes he knows more than the intelligence community. that s a hard sell to make at this point, given that we know he only is getting about once a week president daily briefs gnat would give him more information about national security globally. that statement is inaccurate. these are not the same people that were heading the departments when the bush administration was in place. this is new information and new revelations about what is happening abroad. tom, i talk t about the

so we haven t had a chance to digest it. but the attorney general in his confirmation hearings was very clear with a one-word answer when asked by a senator whether he had contact with the russians in any way, shape, or form. he said no, period. no condition, no modification. so obviously that turns out to not be accurate there is no reason to believe that jeff sessions in the confirmation hearing was trying to hide something. he may simply have forgotten. but it does mean two things. number one, it adds to the incredible weight of evidence that the administration is not credible on these issues. remember a couple of weeks ago when we heard that michael flynn was talking to the russian ambassador simply to wish him merry christmas. and of course that turns out not to be true. and michael flynn is no longer national security adviser. so this white house has a very, very significant credibility problem. and it s with respect to attorney general sessions, what this means, and again, it
north korean actions just re-enforced for both leaders why this is the number one threat to both prime minister abe and to president trump. i think the north korean actions were deliberately timed after what was a pretty good week in terms of u.s. policy in asia, with regard to president trump s call with xi jinping and secretary mattis s trip to the region, i think the trump administration said look, we re here and we re not going to be an easy issue to deal with. right now the national security advisor is said to have broke on the law and critics call for him to be fired, for him to step down. how much does that impact the advice that this group can give the president at this time? i think the precedent is going to get advise from a wide range of people, including the folks in the state department,
particularly those commitments to china that would affect the finances that north korea has for building these missiles, there may be a statement that comes out of the u.n. security
exhibiting the kind of profound indifference to the racial contours of the jeff session nomination that i wouldn t have expected from somebody as savvy as mitch mcconnell. if they did that on purpose to be racially provocative, to stir you racial currents here, i think that s scary and gross. if they did it accidentally, i think it s political malpractice. but i think they ve just turned this issue and elizabeth warren and the jeff sessions nomination into a much hotter, more hotly contested and sort of scarier thing that it s been up until now. it was remarkable. do you think it changes any votes? that s my last question. i don t know. we ve seen a lot of republicans say they were willing to support jeff sessions, joe mancion. an extraordinary legal battle over the fate of the travel ban. a three-judge panel is considering an argument on whether to keep a hold on the order. is there any reason for to us think there s a real risk? the president determined that there was
i have recused myself in the matters that deal with the trump campaign. that statement by the attorney general on thursday came after the washington post revealed that sessions met twice last year with russian ambassador sergei kislyak. sessions scrambled to clarify. in retrospect i should have slowed down, but i did meet one russian official a couple of times and that would be the ambassador. sessions met with kislyak on july 18th, after speaking with a group of ambassadors in the republican convention and he met again with the russian ambassador at his office on september 8th, just three days after president obama took a hard line on russian sanctions in a g-20 meeting with vladimir putin. since the election, trump and his surrogates have repeatedly denied any contacted between the campaign and russian officials. i m telling you it s all phony, baloney garbage. all of the contact by the trump campaign and the associates was with the american people. you are not aware

and the race to find a 6-year-old girl, 300 miles away. good evening. it s great to have you with us here on a very busy friday night. we begin with a deadly police shooting. two officers shot and wounded. the suspect shot and killed. tonight, there s video of the harrowing scene as it unfolded. police struggling with an armed suspect. one officer seen falling to the ground. authorities still trying to figure out if the officers were shot by a suspect, or if there was friendly fire. pierre thomas is on the scene tonight in washington. reporter: disturbing video shows police swarming over the suspect at the end of a dramatic foot chase. as shots ring out. it s not clear what triggered the gunfire or who shot first since the officers are in such close quarters, struggling with the suspect. but four shots can clearly be heard on the video.
at least one apparently striking this officer, who can be seen falling forward to the ground. both officers were wounded. the suspect later died
