But for many of us, the local pharmacy is no more as local branches close and the friendly faces behind the counter become increasingly overworked and out of pocket.

The NHS is spending £30 million a year on health and wellbeing coaches after a hiring spree that patients say would be better spent on doctors.

Health officials have been accused of refusing to take any action to ensure patients can make a GP appointment over the phone.
