SA's poet laureate Mongane Wally Serote says late literature icon Don Mattera led a cultural Struggle against apartheid.

The iconic poet and author Don Mattera was laid to rest at the West Park Cemetery in Johannesburg on Monday night, according to Muslim rites.

Don Mattera died in his home in Protea Glen at age 86.

A family spokesperson, Joseph Cotty, told News24 Mattera would be buried according to Muslim rites.
