Snow and icy conditions forced a number of school closures throughout the Highlands and northeast on Thursday.

Snow and ice have closed schools across the north and north-east this morning, with many others delayed opening until 10am.

After days of snow and ice across the north of Scotland, the Met Office says heavy rain might cause disruption on Thursday.

Two Aberdeenshire schools have more pupils than the buildings are deemed suitable for. And a further 24 are near their maximum roll.

A number of schools across the north and north-east will be closed to pupils today after rain and high winds battered the region.
