Announcing the opening today (8 th April), the Institute said the region could be central to short- to medium-term growth in global CCS deployment. The news comes amidst the rapid expansion of CCS around the world as the focus on reaching net zero commitments intensifies. The Gulf Cooperation Council states, which produce 25% of annual global oil output, has said CCS is  integral to its low-carbon plans. Commenting on the opening, Global CCS Institute CEO, Brad Page, said, “The coming decade may feasibly see CCS take off in the region, as the GCC states look to diversify their economies, further establish leading-edge industry and protect their roles as leading energy exporters.”
