The Brainerd Ski Club in 1938 built the Boom Lake ski slide with Works Progress Administration labor. Ski jumpers landed on the Brainerd lake’s southeast shore. The ski slide no longer exists.

Brainerd wrestling coach Bob Brakke growled after the last Warrior match was over in the Paul Bunyan Invitational. Brainerd had four wrestlers in the finals, but only two won titles. Vince Sellnow won at 103 and Jesse Marohn at 130. Both the Pickar brothers, Dusty at 135 and Andy at 140, suffered upset losses.
