DALLAS â The first doses of COVID-19 vaccine arrived a West Valley Hospital in Dallas on the morning of Dec. 22. By 2 p.m., vaccinations had begun, the first given by Brandon Schmidgall, the hospitalâs chief administrative officer and a registered nurse.
Gretel Honis, a West Valley Hospital emergency department doctor, was the first in line.
âUmm ⦠I begged. I work on the frontlines and I want to be protected,â Honis said. âI didnât even feel a thing.â
Schmidgall said the day is historic for most who currently work in the health care field.
âWe commented last spring when the pandemic hit that this might be the single biggest event in our careers,â Schmidgall said.
