US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Monday spoke with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and expressed condolences over the passing away of Chief of Defence Staff

Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika and his Defence Adviser Brigadier LS Lidder were among the 13 people killed in the crash on Wednesday. Gen Rawat, his wife and Brig Lidder were cremated at Delhis Brar Square Crematorium Friday evening.

Positive identification of the mortal remains of the remaining four soldiers who lost their lives in a chopper crash in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, has been done through DNA testing and will be released to the family members on Sunday morning, the Indian Army said.

The bodies of 10 remaining victims of the IAF chopper crash near Coonoor were identified and the last rites of five of them were conducted on Saturday at their native places with appropriate military honour.

A Jammu and Kashmir Bank employee was suspended for allegedly reacting to a news story on the chopper crash in which Rawat died with a laughing emoticon.

In a 1:10 minute-long clip, Rawat had extended his warm greetings to all the brave soldiers of the Indian Army. 

The mortal remains of three army personnel who perished in the Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter crash near Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor will be brought back to their hometowns on Sunday.

The last rites of Lt Colonel Harjinder Singh, who died in a chopper crash with CDS General Bipin Rawat last week, was performed on Sunday at the Brar Square crematorium in Delhi Cantonment on Sunday.

The personnel, whose remains were positively identified include Gen Bipin Rawats Staff Officer Lt Col Harjinder Singh, Hav Satpal Rai, Nk Gursewak Singh and Nk Jitendra Kumar.
