March is National Nutrition Month, and a physician says that means now is a good time to remind people to go to bed early and catch lots of Z’s. People don t prioritize sleep, warns Dr. Bret Nicks, a spokesman for Christian Medical & Dental Association.
Nicks is also an emergency medicine specialist at Wake Forest University, where he has studied the impact of sleepless nights on the human body and, in particular, on the immune system.
“Sleep affects what you eat as well as your overall health,” he tells One News Now, “and too often people who sleep five or six hours a day tend to be more hungry, to lean toward less-healthy foods, and to find a perception of food that is much more pleasurable, meaning often times too many sweets.
