On Saturday, Feb. 4 the industry will gather for “the Heist, Featuring Ocean’s 58,” a Casino Night at the Langham Pasadena. The Fresh Produce & Floral Council will honor past FPFC chairs, outgoing board members and welcome new board members.

Brighter Bites is partnering with Sunkist to help improve the health of students and families in the Bakersfield, CA, area. Bakersfield serves as Brighter Bites’ third location in California, following Salinas (2021) and Los Angeles (2022). In early December Sunkist began providing monthly donations of citrus to the Brighter Bites Bakersfield locations, helping to provide families with weekly access to fresh produce at no cost.

As part of the West Pak Cares committee community involvement program, West Pak Avocado of Murrieta, CA, donated a load of 134,500 avocados to Brighter Bites, a Houston-based nonprofit that delivers fresh fruits and vegetables directly into families' hands. The organization has provided more than 50 million pounds of produce and hundreds of thousands of nutrition education materials to more than 500,000 individuals in Texas, California, Florida, New York and Washington, DC.

Brighter Bites, a national nonprofit organization that delivers fresh fruits and vegetables directly into families’ hands, is further expanding within the Washington, DC, area. Brighter Bites has served families in Prince George’s County, MD, since 2017, and is now expanding its reach to hundreds of more families in the D.C. Public Schools District. This year, the organization is serving 16 schools in Prince George's County and two in Washington, DC.

The Fresh Produce & Floral Council will hold its annual Holiday Luncheon & Charity Auction Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the Sheraton in Cerritos, CA.

Brighter Bites, a nonprofit organization delivering fresh fruits and vegetables alongside nutrition education resources directly into families’ hands, hosted its first gala to celebrate its 10th birthday. As part of the celebration, the nonprofit exceeded it’s $500,000 campaign goal by raising $741,467 to support the company’s mission of helping under-resourced communities throughout the U.S. have access to fresh produce and nutrition education.

Nonprofit receives grant to expand San Antonio programming

Brighter Bites, a Houston, TX-based nonprofit providing under-resourced families with fresh produce and nutrition education, has received a $300,000 Empowering Health grant from UnitedHealthcare to expand its programming into San Antonio. This funding will help serve areas with high rates of food insecurity and diet-related diseases in the San Antonio area by providing fresh produce and comprehensive nutrition education to children and families.
