Governor Hochul announced that New York State's ConnectALL office has been awarded $7.2 million through the U.S. Department of Commerce's Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment and Digital Equity Act programs.

The state said the initial iteration of the FCCs broadband map undercounts New Yorks digital divide by 31,000 locations. The FCC will debut a first draft of the new map this month.

Governor Hochul announced that New York's ConnectALL Office has submitted over 31,000 addresses from across the state to the Federal Communications Commission under the Broadband Data Collection challenge process.

One provision in Gov. Kathleen C. Hochul’s proposed spending plan calls for a controversial tax to be exempted for work done on behalf of the state.

“What it would do is build a highway network through each small community, or large, and then individual service providers could tap into that network."

"The pandemic exposed how without broadband internet, New Yorkers can be disconnected from school, work, and families," Governor Hochul said.

The state Department of Public Service has set a deadline of Feb. 28 for residents to take a survey as part of its Broadband Assessment Program.

The Department of Public Service said it was encouraged by the number of residents who have already completed the survey and urges more New Yorkers to take part.
