In a major boost to the public service broadcasting, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved a scheme with an outlay of Rs2,539.61 crore till 2025-26. It will develop the infrastructure of the Prasar Bharti running All India Radio and Doordarshan.

NEW DELHI: The Government of India in a bid to improve and modernise the two important broadcasting divisions of Prasar Bharti, i.e. All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD) has allocated Rs 2,539.61 crore up to 2025-26 for this purpose. In a press release issued by the  Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) it has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Information

The scheme will increase coverage of AIR FM transmitters in the country to 66 percent by geographical area and 80 percent by population up from 59 percent and 68 percent, respectively.
