Despite a disability, 57-year-old Lisala Folau says he spent more than a day swimming between Tonga's tiny, earthquake-devastated islands to get back to safety.

Lisala Folau, who lives on the small island of Atata — about 5 miles from the Tongan capital — said he was swept away around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tonga's government has described the tsunami that followed Saturday's volcanic eruption as "an unprecedented disaster" for the country.
