CLEARWATER, Fla. – The sixth-ranked Florida State Seminole softball team (7-0) took down No. 9 Texas (5-2) 9-2 on day two of the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational. Kathryn Sandercock started and pitched 6.1 innings in the circle for the Seminoles. She struck out five batters, allowed seven hits and two earned runs. Brianna Enter came into the game with one out in the seventh and only threw three pitches to get the final two outs of the game. Florida State got on the board in the first inning after Kaley Mudge reached base on a one-out single. Mudge then stole second and advanced all the way home after a throwing error on the Texas catcher. The Noles made it 2-0 after two innings. Michaela Edenfield led off the inning with a single and that was followed up by a pair of singles from Devyn Flaherty and Sydney Sherrill. Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 6 Seminole softball team (4-0) looks to add to their 4-0 start to the season this week as they play six games in five days. The Noles start at home when they host South Alabama (1-3) on Wednesday, February 16th at 2:00 PM. Florida State then heads to the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational to take on Tennessee (Feb. 17 at 4 pm), Texas (Feb. 18 at 1 pm), Michigan (Feb. 19 at 1 pm), UCF (Feb. 20 at 12:30 pm), and UCLA (Feb. 20 at 7 pm). The Seminoles and South Alabama have met 11 times, with the Noles leading the series 7-4. The teams last met in 2019 at home with a 4-1 Seminole win. The last time South Alabama beat FSU was 3-1 in 2018 during the first game of a doubleheader. The Seminoles responded to the loss with a run-rule win in the second game 14-1. South Alabama started their season 1-3 with two losses against No. 14 LSU and a loss to Illinois. No. 6 Florida State 8, Loyola 2 Emma Wilson started on the mound for the Noles and pitched 5.2 innings. She recorded four hits, two runs, and three strikeouts.
