BRATTLEBORO — The Windham Regional Commission has received $2.5 million for the assessment and cleanup of brownfield sites in Southern Vermont.

On Wednesday, EPA Region 8 administrator KC Becker and her staff flew into Missoula mainly to tour some of the Clark Fork River Superfund sites, including the Smurfit Stone Mill site.

The City of Missoula hosted a walk with the EPA around the Old Sawmill District to highlight what they say is a success story.

Millions of dollars in federal funding have been awarded to communities across Connecticut to clean up and assess polluted areas as part of the brownfields program.

The awards will help assess, clean up, and revitalize brownfield sites across the Mountain State, Senator Capito said.
