One crew member is dead and 12 others remained missing after an oilfield boat capsized Tuesday during a severe thunderstorm in the Gulf of Mexico about 8 miles south of Port Fourchon, the Coast Guard said.
During a news conference Wednesday, Coast Guard Capt. Will Watson said six survivors had been found from the 129-foot capsized liftboat the Seacor Power.
It was was yet known why the vessel was out on the water during the severe weather, Watson told reporters. We re trying to figure this out as we go, he said. We re talking to survivors and to the company. We re focusing on the search and rescue right now.
