ambassador. to talk more about it, hugh hewitt himself. you introduced a number of areas where it sounds like you would like to see the attorney general focus an investigation, an outside investigation. obviously, if he went in that direction, you would have a loud outcry from democrats. that would be a major political issue. i am just curious what you make of his answer. do you think that s something he is seriously considering or was he giving you a polite brushoff there? no. i think it is something he is seriously considering, steve, based on the next question in the sequence. i said, let s drill down on irs, which is the one that gave me the most heartburn. lois lerner document destruction. the fumble of the investigation. i said what about them one. he was on record in the senate of having been quite upset about that. he is a long-time doj person. i didn t spend nearly as much time there as he did. when he came back and said that
i voted against it. i was in the senate at the same time. it wasn t that complicated to me. so hillary clinton even had some good one-liners. for instance, here, where lincoln chafee was trying to challenge clinton on her credibility, instead of responding, she brushed off chafee as well as his entire candidacy. take a look. so anytime someone s running to be our leader and a world leader, which the american president is, credibility is an issue. out there with the world. and we have repair work to be done. i think we need someone that has the best in ethical standards as our next president. that s how i feel. secretary clinton, do you want to respond? no. governor governor o malley a little bit of a brushoff there. joining me beth buoy, democratic strategist and former san francisco mayor willie brown and former governor of minnesota and former 2012 presidential candidate tim pawlenty. beth, i want to start with you. the night of positives, did this
that would and great strategy. she might as well start dealing with it. she can avoid it if the democratic party decide her candidates i is too precious and fragile to be messed with, if martin month mallee or whoever else is going to get the brushoff and she is not compelled to fans questions perhaps she ll not. what is she going to say? it was so convenient to have one device. she has an eternity of questions to answer. she didn t answer any of them. at some point she ll start doing out to most favors nation status interests viewers. it s not like she is going say megyn kelly i m going to hang out with megyn and be interviewed by her. martha: why not? i m sure megyn will be lovely to her.
which is a pushoff, a brushoff. he s very on hand in this situation. when we were in a meeting earlier, the entire table was filled with african-americans, not one caucasian. and i have to tell you that people are very sensitive to this situation, not only is the police force but also employees of berkeley and the mayor and people who are in the berkeley community. again, i have to tell you, this approach is very different in the way you see this investigation handled. it s going to be cleaner, more transparent. and i think that people just need some time to breathe in all that is going on and look at the facts. that is what is most important. senator, thank you. i appreciate that. i want to bring in tom here. i m trying to in some ways look at this in a way that you can
actually lower rates. i think none of that s been in this discussion. so absolutely i think we need to do a big agreement for the country, because we haven t dealt with the fundamental drivers of our debt: the entitlement programs. gretchen: they don t sound so unreasonable? i had to read those sound bites verbatim a couple of extra times this morning to make sure i was hearing republicans saying this. we don t need to raise taxes to fund the government. we need to raise taxes to get our nation out of debt. that sounds like compromise to me. that sounds like a position that republicans don t like, which is raising taxes, but saying, hey, we d be willing to do this if in fact the other side also comes to the table and talks about the big issues, the big elephant in the room yes, another e word entitlements which so far have been given the complete brushoff. brian: the key is the entitlements but not saying cut medicare and medicaid. i think it s the wrong language. i think the rig
