Guentzel says the Penguins are aware that teams try to get them off their game by playing physical, sometimes borderline dirty hockey.
The Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin was called for roughing in the second period last night and now is in sole possession of second place on the Pens’ all-time penalty minutes list. Malkin’s 984 career penalty minutes pass Troy Loney, but he still has a ways to go before he reaches the all-time record of 1,048, set by Kevin Stevens.
The Penguins got a little help in the standings, as the Sabres beat the islanders for the second straight game, 4-3 in a shootout. The Devils got by the Bruins, 4-3 in overtime. The Bruins and Islanders each earn a point, placing Boston four in back of the Penguins and the Islanders five back. The Penguins lead the Capitals by two points in the NHL East. Washington was idle. Both the Caps and Bruins have two games in hand on the Penguins.

Ilya Samsonov allowed three goals on 26 shots in Saturday s 3-0 home loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Samsonov allowed a goal to Bryan Rust at 2:56 of the first period, and another to Rust just 0:26 into the second period. Newcomer Jeff Carter scored at 10:43 of the second, and that s all the Pens could muster against Samsonov. However, the Capitals offense provided him with zero support, as Tristan Jarry was just a little bit better on this afternoon.

If March was a tough month for the New Jersey Devils, then April was an absolute nightmarish month. They began the month to turn their shootout loss at Boston on March 13 into a four-game winless streak. After winning a game, they lost ten in a row. The Devils went into the final week of their month of 16 games with just one win in April. One. And it was on the road in Western New York. At least the Devils picked up a second and third win in April before April ended. It does not take away much of the pain that comes with a 3-11-2 month. They earned eight points; only two teams in the league finished with fewer points in April. And one of those two teams was Vancouver, who only played seven games due to the Coronavirus. It was a horrible month for the Devils.
