Wyoming, being a landlocked state, seldom has anything much to do with either coast. It is over 1000 miles to the West Coast and the Gulf of Mexico, and over 2000 miles to the9 east coast. So why did Wyoming have a ship named after her? Here is her story.

Built with money from Wyoming Governor Bryant Butler Brooks, the 450-foot schooner named "Wyoming" remains the largest wooden ship ever built, featuring six 126-foot masts and 12,000 yards of sails. It sank in a nor'easter off the coast of Cape Cod in 1924.
