NEW DELHI: The BJP is set for a pitched battle in West Bengal with a strong mix of stalwarts some homegrown leaders, some TMC turncoats spearheading the party s campaign to topple the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government.
However, despite having a fair number of heavyweights in its arsenal, the BJP is heading into the high-stakes contest without a chief ministerial face.
There could be many reasons behind this.
The first being that the party lacks a mass leader in West Bengal who can match the appeal and popularity of chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Monday claimed that many more leaders in Karnataka would rebel against Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa,
The Hindu reported. Yatnal added that Yediturappa would quit his post, as the dissent against him was likely to “explode” soon.
Yatnal’s remark came days after Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister KS Eshwarappa complained to Governor Vajubhai Vala about Yediyurappa’s “interference” in his department. Eshwarappa accused the chief minister of bypassing him to make allocations worth crores of rupees from his department.

Bengaluru, Jan 13: Resentment has erupted within the state BJP soon after Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced the list of seven Ministers to be inducted into his 17-month old cabinet on Wednesday.

The ruling party legislators have expressed serious reservations about MLCs not elected by the people being made Ministers, lack of representation to certain regions,with most Ministers still from Bengaluru and Belagavi districts and also on their seniority or sacrifice not being considered.
Yediyurappa earlier in the day announced that MLAs Umesh Katti, Arvind Limbavali, Murugesh Nirani, C P Yogeshwar, S Angara, and MLCs MTB Nagaraj and R Shankar will be sworn-in as Ministers, following which several BJP MLAs, who were aspirants, expressed their serious discontent.
