The BharatNet phase-3 project has a three-tier structure – internet leased line bandwidth which will be provided by BSNL at 7,269 blocks; middle-mile connectivity where private players will operate and maintain the project for 10 years; and the last-mile connectivity through the Udyami model.
Bsnl News: Cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba called a review meeting with the senior officials of BSNL and MTNL earlier this week to take an update of the monetisation process. “They have been asked to prepare a detailed circle-wise report, with land parcel and reason for the delay or possible hurdles, by May 31,” another official said.
“I see this sector as a sunrise sector. There are new technologies, new investments. Close to Rs 2 lakh crore investment is happening in the 5G rollout. BSNL is reviving in a very systematic and methodical way,” Vaishnaw said, as per the report.
As per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)’s latest subscriber data, BSNL held a market share of 8.08% in October. In comparison, private sector telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have a market share of 39.3% and 32.85%, respectively. Vodafone Idea’s market share is 19.6%.
