According to BBMP officials, additional development of parks and recreational works adjacent to the lake will be decided after drawing up the DPR. In October, three lakes — Madiwala, Nagawara and Hebbal —were transferred by the Karnataka Forest Department to the BBMP as per an order issued by the Urban Development Department. From 2019 to 2022, Madiwala Lake was in the custody of the BBMP before Karnataka Forest Department took over its administration.
As BMTC is shifting to more green mobility, it is procuring electric buses under gross contract carriage. In the current financial year (2023-24), 921 non-AC electric buses manufactured by M/s Tata Motors Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd. are set to join the Corporation fleet. The buses were flagged off by CM Siddaramaiah on Tuesday.
Bengaluru this year has recorded the second highest number of deaths in road accidents in the country after Delhi. According to the latest data released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the city accounted for 3,822 road accidents in a year which makes 5.8 percent of the total accidents recorded in India while Delhi accounted for 8.1 percent of cases. Data shows that the city recorded the highest number of pedestrian deaths in the country with 247 deaths and 822 pedestrian injuries.
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that charging station installations are already complete at Depot 3 (Shantinagar, equipped with a 5,200 kilovolt-amperes (kVA) high tension (HT) electric supply) and Depot 8 (Hebbal, with a 1,400 KVA HT). He further added that ongoing works are in progress at Depot 29 (KR Puram, with a 4,100 KVA HT electric connection) and Depot 10 (Hennur, boasting a 5,000 KVA electricity supply).
