City OKs fire station kitchen renovation funds

The Kodiak City Council has authorized $42,817 for the renovation of the fire station’s kitchen, which is needed for “efficiency and safety reasons,” according to City Manager Mike Tvenge.   The council voted at a regular meeting on Jan. 28 to pass an ordinance approving the renovation. Funds will come out of the city budget’s Building Improvement Fund.  “After review of the kitchen appliances, cabinet and counter space, it is evident an upgrade is needed,” Tvenge wrote in a memo to the council. “This improvement will allow for multiple shifts to better utilize this space.”  Tvenge noted that with increased personnel on each work shift, the current space needs a more efficient design and a working dishwasher.
