Sensex closed 1,564 points or 2.70 per cent higher at 59,537 and Nifty surged 446 points or 2.58 per cent to close at 17,759 in the previous trading session.
After remaining in the positive territory for most part of the trade, Sensex suddenly came under selling pressure during the last half-hour of the session.
Sensex rose 54 points to 59,085 and Nifty ended 30 pts higher at 17,607 in the previous session. Mid-cap and small-cap indices on BSE gained 199 points and 203 points, respectively.
