These adjudicated dances are both choreographed and performed by Performing Arts majors and minors with a concentration in dance and dancers from the Acadiana community. The 2023 production of An Evening of Dance promises to be an evening of concert dance that is thoughtfully diverse in its subject matter and richly innovative in its approach.Burke Theatre in Burke-Hawthorne Hall on the UL campus.
Burke-hawthorne-hallUl-lafayette-dance-programPerforming-arts"Eurydice" reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice not through Orpheus's infamous pilgrimage to retrieve his bride, but through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With contemporary characters, plot twists, and a script written to be a playground for designers, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story. Sarah also adapted the play into the libretto for an opera, Eurydice by Matthew Aucoin, which premiered at the L.A. Opera in February 2020.The show opens November 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Burke-Hawthorne Hall, room 231.
