Shin Ukkaṭṭha: a revolutionary Buddhist monk and a pioneer of Marxism in Burma

"Shin Ukkaṭṭha” in local periodicals, newspapers, journals, and history is recognized as “the revolutionary thinker and monk of Burma." Given the number of norms he has broken in his life, he certainly deserved the label. Even those who opposed his interpretation of Buddhism have ultimately come to the conclusion that, despite the criticism, they are left with no other option than to either "become the laughing stock" or "adopt the interpretation of Shin Ukkaṭṭha" in order to appropriate Buddhism in light of modern knowledge, science, and education. Buddhism in Burma had to undergo significant change, particularly in the twenty-first century, to avoid becoming the laughing stock of the country's youthful and intelligent populace. Many of the concepts stated by "Shin Okkahta," which had previously been suppressed, had to be resurrected by today's progressive Buddhist monks.

Ted Grant and his fictional history of Burma

Ted Grant was a South African white Trotskyist who founded British Trotskyist groups such as Militant and later Socialist Appeal, a predecessor of the International Marxist Tendency. So-called Trotskyists who blindly follow the ideological cult of international Marxist tendencies tend to believe that Ted Grant firmly follows the ideas of Trotsky. However, some larger Trotskyist groups, such as WSWS, CWI, ISA, and so on, think Ted Grant is not qualified to be hailed as a Trotskyist leader given his pseudo-intellectual roots and his mistaken analyses on a lot of different matters.

Myanmar's Failed Mutinies in History

Myanmar’s Failed Mutinies in History The Armed Forces Day parade in Naypyitaw in 2018. / The Irrawaddy 4.2k By The Irrawaddy 11 May 2021 After Myanmar’s military coup on Feb. 1, some military personnel have joined the civil disobedience movement and left the armed forces. The National Union Government (NUG), a shadow cabinet formed to rival the military regime, has urged personnel to mutiny and join the NUG’s People’s Defence Force. It is widely believed that a counter-coup by disgruntled military officers or a large-scale mutiny could resolve the crisis. However, analysts say any major mutiny is unlikely because of the leadership’s tight grip on personnel, including their families. Generally, the immediate family of personnel live inside military camps.
