St Barbara in the PNG tent as Simberi decision looms
Share
Gold miner St Barbara will decide in March whether to spend $US160 million ($206 million) on a mine expansion in Papua New Guinea and chief executive Craig Jetson has assured investors the company is in the tent with the developing nation s politicians.
PNG s approach to foreign resources companies has been increasingly hostile and nationalistic since the rise to power of Prime Minister James Marape in May 2019, causing headaches for big gas producers like ExxonMobil and multinational miners like Barrick Gold.
Craig Jetson was a senior executive at Newcrest Mining before taking the helm at St Barbara.
