COLUMBIA, S.C. University of South Carolina President Bob Caslen has resigned, saying that he has lost the trust of the university in the wake over a controversial graduation speech. After focused discussions with President Bob Caslen, University of South Carolina Board of Trustees Chair C. Dorn Smith III, MD has announced that President Caslen has tendered his resignation, the school said in a statement Wednesday night. Chairman Smith thanked President Caslen and his wife Shelly for their service to the university during the challenges of the last two years.

The University of South Carolina s much-besieged president has resigned amid his latest controversy, the school announced in a statement Wednesday evening.
Bob Caslen was accused of plagiarism during his commencement speech for May graduation, according to news reports.
Harris Pastides, the public health researcher who preceded Caslen as president, will serve as interim until a replacement is hired, the release said. After focused discussions with President Bob Caslen, University of South Carolina Board of Trustees, Chair C. Columbia, SC (WOLO) University of South Carolina President Bob Caslen has officially resigned after serving as President of the school for the past two years.
The Board of Trustees Chair C. Dorn Smith III announced that Caslen did in fact tender his resignation Wednesday after focused discussions.
The Chairman says he has thanked President Caslen and his wife Shelly for their two years of service to the University. … when trust is lost, one is unable to lead.
