About 8,000 British Columbians were still under evacuation orders as of Monday, with 54,000 under alert and ready to leave at a moment's notice. 

Emergency Management Minister Bowinn Ma said the province is preparing for the possibility this drought season could last beyond the calendar year and stretch into 2024.

In the Okanagan, officials revised the number of damaged or lost structures from 181 to 189 on Monday, having had additional time to conduct site assessments.

As crews have been able to better access the fire-damaged areas, they've updated the number of partially or completely destroyed properties to 189 from 181.
