8 JACKSON, Mississippi (Jan. 14, 2021) – The morning of Jan. 14 started out as many others had before for 1st Lt. Matthew J. Cushing. He was on his way to Jackson State University, where he is an Assistant Professor of Military Science, ready to start the spring semester for the program. But this day was different – instead of starting out the morning teaching young ROTC cadets, he found himself in the middle of conflict, injured civilians and relying on his Army training. While driving to the college to start the day, he came across the scene a major vehicle accident. He said it took a second to try to digest what had and was happening, before he decided to take actions, and possibly saving accident victims lives.

Military Science to Commission Five Army Officers Friday 12/17/2020 JONESBORO – Five new Army officers will be commissioned by the Department of Military Science at Arkansas State University in a ceremony Friday, Dec. 18. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in the Military Science building, 1921 Aggie Road, when A-State candidates Steven Crow of Salem, Robert Adkins Jr. of Sherrill and Landon Grimmett of North Little Rock (and Arkansas State University-Beebe) will be commissioned as second lieutenants into the United States Army Reserve. At 11 a.m., a ceremony will be held for cadets from the Harding University detachment of the Red Wolf  Battalion with the commissioning of two students as second lieutenants. They are Samuel Wilson of Jenks, Okla., and Ryan Tabor of Crossville, Tenn., into the U.S. Army Reserves.

Local among 5 Army officers to be commissioned Friday

JONESBORO, Ark. – Five new Army officers were set to be commissioned by the Department of Military Science at Arkansas State University in a ceremony Friday morning, including one from Fulton County. The ceremony was set for 10 in the Military Science building, 1921 Aggie Road, when A-State candidate Steven Crow of Salem joined four others to be commissioned as second lieutenants into the United States Army Reserve.A-State Chancellor Kelly Damphousse provided the keynote address followed by words from Lt. Col. Joseph Loar, professor of military science. All five have earned diplomas from their respective universities. Crow’s Bachelor of Science degree is agricultural studies and will be in the Army’s field artillery.
