A group representing Prachin Buri's residents have formally lodged a complaint with the parliamentary Committee on Land, Natural Resources and the Environment over the disappearance of a caesium-137 cylinder from a power plant in the province.
Caretaker Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha gave reassurances that local residents would be safe after hazardous caesium-137 contamination was detected at a metal factory in Prachin Buri's Kabin Buri district on Monday.
After a 10 days search, government agencies found radiated red dust believed to be from the remains of a caesium-137 tube, which disappeared from a power plant on Feb 23.
Although authorities had confirmed that caesium-137 contamination was safely contained at a foundry in Prachin Buri province, facts indicate that related health risks remain, according to Greenpeace Thailand.
