A Kerry father has been left with only the clothes on his back after a blaze ripped though his home in rural south Kerry.

A Kerry judge has said he wants to hear the summary of the evidence in a Cahersiveen assault case next week to allow him to decide whether the case will be heard in the District Court or the Circuit Court.

Judge David Waters asked that he receive a summary of the facts next week in the case of Thomas McDonagh of 3 Fertha Drive, Cahersiveen

News that Kerry County Council (KCC) is engaging with the McCarthy family in Killorglin with an eye to developing new amenities – including, perhaps, park land and gardens – was welcomed at last Friday’s Kenmare Municipal District Meeting.

Gardaí in Kerry are calling for a dedicated Garda Armed Response Unit for the county due to its rural location.

The annual Ballykissane Commemoration was held in Killorglin on Saturday marking the anniversary of the tragic event on Good Friday, 1916, when Conn Keating, Donal Sheahan and Charlie Monaghan became the first casualties of the Rising.

Cllr Michael Cahill said he fears for young couples looking to buy homes in the Mid Kerry area, and he warned a “catastrophe” could be on the way for Killorglin and Cahersiveen’s housing-application lists.

With progress now underway on the long awaited South Kerry Greenway there is a great excitement in the local communities for the new facility which is hoped will bring a much needed boost to the region.

Plans have been unveiled for a new glamping area in Cahersiveen. South Kerry Accommodation is seeking planning permission.
