Ending the Aggie Invitational with a decisive defensive performance, the Bears secured another two wins for the regular competition season. Cal had a full week off and now head down to Irvine to face intense competition as they are set to potentially compete against top 5 teams in the NCAA league.
The No. 4 Cal women's water polo team earned a pair of wins at the Aggie Invite on Saturday, first defeating California Baptist 19-5 in the morning before downing No. 17 UC Davis 15-5 shortly after.
Disappointment consumes the Bears as they fall to No. 1 Stanford for the second time this season. Cal traveled to Avery Aquatic Center this past weekend to face Stanford, along with Arizona State and Michigan, in the Stanford Invitational.
The highly anticipated game versus Stanford was the first clash between the two rivals this season. It was a close contest, as both teams were scoring goals back and forth trying to secure the lead.
Cal is set to host three teams in its home territory at the California Cup this weekend Jan. 28 to Jan. 29. The Bears will take on San Jose State first, followed by Stanford the next morning. Then, they will finish off the invitational with a match against UC Davis.
