California State Parks unanimously voted to change the name of Negro Bar, a day-use area at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, to Black Miner’s Bar. The name change is temporary while the board conducts more research into the history of the area.
Folsom Lake’s Negro Bar area got its name back in the 1840s at a spot where Black miners discovered gold. With California State Parks voting on a change in June, residents are debating the use of a word that has caused harm.
