Burbank City Council Recognizes Artsakh; Rescinds Burbank-Hadrut Friendship City Status

ANCA Burbank Commends the City Council and Welcomes the Move BURBANK The Burbank City Council on Tuesday unanimously voted to recognize Artsakh as an independent republic and at the same time rescinded the Burbank-Hadrut Friendship City status while the city remains under the illegal Azerbaijani occupation. The Armenian National Committee of America Burbank chapter representing the policy priorities of the city’s Armenian-American residents has been advocating for the recognition of Artsakh Republic for months going back to the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression against Armenia and Artsakh in September 2020. “We thank the Burbank city council and the residents of Burbank for their continued strong support for the people of Artsakh in their struggle for freedom and self-determination,” said ANCA-Burbank chairman Sarkis Simonian.

February 2, 2021 California State Senator Anthony Portantino, in an interview with Asbarez Editor Ara Khachatourian on Tuesday said, California should begin the process of divesting from Turkey. The remark was in response to a question regarding legislation passed by both houses of the California legislature and signed by the governor, calling on the state to divest from Turkey. Portantino, who has visited Artsakh on several occasions, also said that the State of California must continuously reaffirm Artsakh’s right to self-determination, since the state was one of the first to recognize Artsakh independence. The senator also discussed several measures to assist California residents as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to ravage the state. Citrus College superintendent/president announces retirement

Reply Citrus College Superintendent/President Geraldine M. Perri, Ph.D., will retire on July 1, 2021. Although she first shared the news with the college community in December 2020, Superintendent/President Perri s retirement plans were made official during the Jan. 19, 2021, meeting of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees. It has been an honor to be a part of the Citrus College community for the past 13 years.
