SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One-way reversing traffic control remains in place on U.S. Highway 50 just east of Echo Summit for blasting and clearing work after a rockfall sent large boulders onto the roadway late Tuesday night.

The four-mile section of California Highway 89 around the iconic Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe remains closed after recent storms dumped snow on Lake Tahoe. Caltrans maintenance staff have begun the process of clearing the roadway which has up to 30 feet of snow in some locations as well as debris from last weeks storm.

Caltrans is alerting motorists about a winter storm on its way to the Sierra Nevada that could create challenging mountain travel conditions through today.

An ambulance is on the way to the scene of the collision.

There are no accidents along the stretch of the highway where traffic is moving slowly.

The collision was reported at 11:15 a.m.

Caltrans is alerting motorists about an upcoming 12-day closure of State Route 20 (SR-20) east of Nevada City for major roadwork on the Omega Curves Project.
