father still clinging to live after a brutal assault. and wikileaks julian assange claiming there s a witch hunt against his company. good evening. i m tom fitzgerald. we ll begin tonight in montgomery county where a silver spring couple woke up this morning to find one of their cars was gone. it was stolen in the middle of the night by two men. they know that because of the theft being caught on tape. fox 5 s karen gray houston is in our newsroom. what do we know about this? well, tom that, it probably didn t occur to the thieves to look for a camera efore they drove off in a car that didn t belong to them. unfortunately for the couple, they still don t have the car back and police say it s a crime that could have been prevented. the timestamp on the video shows the crime happened shortly before midnight at the family rambler on busy new hampshire avenue not far from the beltway. the couple and their new baby were sleeping at the time and the thieves were very brazen.

down and they started turning and flipped into the embankment. reporter: witnesses say one of the two officers was thrown from the car. i kept trying to talk to the officer on the floor, talk to him and talk to him and get some kind of response. reporter: that rookie officer who was driving died. his partner, the passenger in the cruiser survived. the suspect got away. to be honest with you, i can t believe this happened. crazy, you know. i hope they catch the suspects, i really do. he was driving very recklessly. he didn t care in anybody. whoever the driver was was just trying to get away. they didn t care about nothing. reporter: now, of course, police are continuing to search for that acura. it looks like it s a tl. we are told that it is silver in color and witnesses tell us that it had temporary tags, they believe, from the state of maryland. beth parker, laura, back into you. thank you. the officer that died and his injured partner were taken to the hospita
whether the acura purposefully cut off the cruiser, forcing it to crash. the patrol car was reject the he was 23 years old. he suffered massive head injuries. he was on the force 2 1/2 years. he was well-known since he was 15 or 16 years old he was a police explorer scout. his partner has been on the force one year. he suffered multiple injuries that are not considered life-threatening. law enforcement officers from prince george s county and other law enforcement agencies are gathering at prince george s hospital center. it s a very sad day for me, for my men and women who i represent, for the police department as a whole. i know that everyone will ekeep us in their thoughts and prayers. police are asking for those who saw the accident south of powder mill road in the beltsville area to come forward. if you know anything, to please call crimesolvers and help us out with this. we also ask for your prayers for the two officers for their families as they re going throug
