TEN of the 16 workers at the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation are demanding that the council revoke a decision to terminate them and not to approve funding for their employment.
The council was given until noon on Wednesday to give the undertakings set out in a pre-action protocol letter sent on the workers’ behalf by attorney David-Mark Kidney on Monday.

FIRED Sangre Grande regional corporation contract workers are adamant they will not be backing down from their threats of legal action and are only willing to give the council a day to respond to their legal letter.
The council of the corporation, led by chairman Anil Juteram, was meeting in emergency session on Wednesday to discuss the pre-action protocol letter sent by the ten on Monday.

The People’s National Movement (PNM) members of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation will be seeking legal advice on the legality of the special statutory meeting held on March 31 where a vote was taken to rescind the employment contracts of 16 people.
Speaking at a press conference at the corporation on Thursday, alderman Daneille Marshall-Piper said, “We need to know if, given the fact that they wanted to rescind a decision and they do not have just cause, if that vote was to be taken.”
