DeSoto police tracked the suspected shooter, Evan McMaryion, to Arizona, where he was already in custody after he was found to be driving a vehicle stolen out of DeSoto.
McMaryion, a DeSoto resident, is being held in the Pinal County jail on charges of capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He faces extradition back to Texas.
Police believe carjacking was the motive in the shooting.
The shooting is the third homicide in the city in the last four weeks.
DeSoto Mayor Rachel Proctor said Saturday that the shootings were isolated and disturbing, but do not represent the overall crime in the city.

A 16-year-old boy has been taken into custody in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old junior Olympic boxer.
The juvenile suspect went into hiding after the April 22 murder of Camran Kashawn Collier, a boxer and a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, Dallas police said as per Dallas News.
The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, has an extensive criminal record and had been fitted with an electronic leg monitoring device. However, he had it removed in early April, before the murder, hindering efforts by the Dallas County Juvenile Probation to monitor his whereabouts.

A Parker County woman faces a felony charge after authorities say injuries found on her son who later died were consistent with child abuse.
Brooke Baker Chadwick, 42, of Aledo was booked into the Tarrant County jail on a charge of injury to a child and released after posting $100,000 bond. It is unclear whether she has an attorney.
According to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, Chadwick called 911 on Friday evening and said her 5-year-old son, Samuel, was unresponsive and wasn’t “breathing right.” Emergency personnel who responded to the home in the 600 block of Soaring Star Lane took the boy to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.

DESOTO, TEXAS DeSoto Police have a 16-year-old juvenile suspect in custody for the April 22nd Capital Murder of 19-Year-Old Camran Kashawn Collier who had been found fatally wounded in the driver’s seat of his Honda Accord on April 22, 2021 in the 1100 block of Westlake Drive. Police believe robbery was the motive.
Police identified the juvenile as a suspect early on in the case, but the suspect had gone into hiding. The juvenile suspect had an extensive juvenile criminal record and had previously been fitted with an electronic leg monitoring device. The juvenile had removed that device in early April hindering efforts by Dallas County Juvenile Probation to monitor the whereabouts of the juvenile.
