SAPEC provides resources during Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Sexual Assault Awareness Month kicked off at the beginning of April at the University of Kansas with the theme “We Can Build Safe Online Spaces,” intended to raise awareness of the fact that sexual assault, harassment and abuse can also happen on online platforms, not just through physical contact.  Jen Brockman, director of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Center, said that the educational programs start the awareness conversation on campus. These programs include ‘Jayhawks Give a Flock,’ ‘Consent @ KU,’ ‘Sex, Drugs and Alcohol’ and ‘Sexual Violence Recognition and Response.’  “SAPEC provides primary education for sexual violence, intimitate partner violence and stalking,” Brockman said. “We work with both undergrad and graduate students in a variety of education based programs.

On Thursday, April 22, The Rising Center and the Care Cottage, along with several community partners, held “Take Back the Night” at the Perry County Park. The event, which was part of The Rising Center’s SAAPM events, was dedicated to show available resources and community support for victims and survivors of sexual assault and/or abuse.

Clothesline Project event to fight abuse to be held online Wednesday

New Jersey Herald NEWTON Two Sussex County social services organizations will present this year s Clothesline Project to fight sexual abuse and domestic violence. The virtual Facebook Live event will be sponsored by Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Intervention Services, known as DASI, and Ginnie s House Children s Advocacy Center. It is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. The Clothesline Project takes place each April as part of National Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention Month.
