Officials say about 170 homes and other buildings have been reported damaged or destroyed by wildfires in the Shuswap region of British Columbia, almost doubling the known structural losses in the province's ravaged Interior.

The tool only applies to properties that were put on evacuation order

Provincial officials say residents defying evacuation orders in B.C.s Shuswap region are undermining the "unified" fight against the wildfires and compromising first responders safety – as tensions in the region remain high.

Helicopters were back in the air dropping buckets in the North Shuswap Tuesday after they were grounded for several days due to low visibility brought on by heavy smoke. Another battle is raging alongside the wildfire fight—one between officials, and residents who feel they’ve been abandoned.

Emergency Operations Centre staff will be conducting hazard assessments to better understand what needs to be done to ensure the safety of the area.

The tiny bit of rain came with a promise of more precipitation expected in the region on Tuesday.

The Bush Creek East wildfire in British Columbia's Shuswap jumped from 7,000 hectares that moved 20 kilometres south in just under 12 hours and grew to 41,000 hectares.
