Subscriber only Almost 80 US brands of sunscreen including some that appear to be sold in Australia have been found to contain the cancer-causing chemical benzene. Valisure, a US company that chemically tests generic medicines and other products to make sure they aren t contaminated, uncovered the problem after testing 294 sunscreens made by 69 companies. Fourteen batches contained benzene at concentrations up to three times the limit of two parts per million set by Australia s medicines watchdog, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
