The 2023 Genoa Candy Dance returns for its 104th year this weekend, September 23 and 24. Over 400 arts and crafts, activity, and food vendors attend, in addition to the Saturday night Dinner Dance.

The Nevada Appeal, the Silver States oldest continuously run newspaper, first published on May 16, 1865.

Many celebrations are scheduled throughout the Silver State in the month of September. These Nevada 150 events celebrate all things Nevada and help bring awareness to the 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following events are held Sept. 15 through 30.

Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally.

Line dancing has become a staple of the Black community‘s culture as it naturally provides a sense of comfort, unity and pride at any festivities.

The first Candy Dance was held in Genoa in 1919, and came about as a fundraiser to purchase street lights for the tiny town tucked away against the Sierra mountains in the Carson Valley. Now, over 100 years later, the annual Arts and Crafts Fair is still being held.
